A quick injury note. One of the Brinkley twins is down, though Person reports nothing serious:
USC outside linebacker Casper Brinkley is recovering from arthroscopic surgery he had two weeks ago to clean out damaged cartilage from his left knee, Brinkley said Thursday. The senior from Thomson, Ga., will be sidelined for two to four weeks but expects to be 100 percent by the start of preseason practice.
Brinkley made 44 tackles and tied for the team lead with seven sacks from his defensive end spot in 2006. The 6-foot-2, 257-pound Brinkley might see action at linebacker and end this season.
If everything goes as planned -- and all sports fans know that injuries rarely go as planned -- it shouldn't slow down his transition from to linebacker or end/linebacker hybrid too much, depending on how well he learned the position during the spring. We'll see.
