AND THE FANS GO WILD -- IN A BAD WAY
Back from Detroit, looking at the notes hastily scrawled on a hotel pad, and the No. 1 entry is: Rip fans.
It's not something I like to do, seeing as how I am, after all, a fan myself. But the past two weeks have been embarassing -- embarassing -- for the South Carolina faithful.
You don't throw stuff out on the field in the SEC. You don't. That's not passionate -- it's stupid.
And you don't leave before the third quarter is over unless there is at least a three-TD lead. You don't. (At least not in Columbia. Maybe in Atlanta, where there's actually traffic. But not in Columbia.)
It used to be said that South Carolina had an SEC fan base, but not an SEC team.
The last two weeks, it's had an SEC team, but not an SEC fan base.
